Quarter Round Edge

$3.00 lin. ft.

You are here:

The quarter round edge features a gentle, slight radius or rounding on the top edge of the stone, while the bottom edge remains mostly squared or straight. It “knocks off” the sharp corner of a standard square edge. The quarter round profile is a smart choice when you want a beautiful, long-lasting stone countertop without distracting from the stone itself or the overall room design.

Pros

Safety and Comfort: The rounded top edge is safer than a sharp straight edge, reducing the risk of bumps or cuts, especially in homes with children. It is also more comfortable to lean against.

Chipping Resistance: The rounded surface is less prone to chipping and damage compared to sharp-angled edges (like a straight or beveled edge).

Aesthetic Versatility: It provides a subtle, soft look that is considered versatile. It can complement both traditional designs (by adding a touch of softness) and modern/transitional designs (by keeping a relatively crisp appearance).

Visual Thickness: The slight curve on the top can help maximize the visual thickness of the countertop slab compared to a full bullnose, which can make the stone appear thinner.

Ease of Cleaning: Since it is a simple profile without intricate grooves or detailing (unlike an Ogee edge), it is generally easy to wipe clean.

Cost-Effective: It is often a standard or simple edge, which may be less expensive to fabricate than more complex, premium profiles.

Traditional or Transitional Kitchen: it’s a subtle upgrade from a straight edge without committing to a fully rounded profile.

Cons

Spills: Like a full bullnose, the quarter round edge is rounded at the very top, which can potentially direct liquid spills down the face of the cabinets instead of causing them to drip straight to the floor, although it’s less pronounced than a full bullnose.

Not the “Most Modern” Look: While versatile, if you are aiming for a strictly minimalist, contemporary, or industrial look, an eased (or straight with barely a softened corner) edge is typically preferred.

Potential for Generic Look: Since it’s a very common and simple profile, it may lack the distinctive, custom character of a more ornate edge like an Ogee or a mitered edge.
